Repair peptide - actin-binding

TB 500 (Thymosin B 4 Acetate)

Thymosin beta-4 fragment studied for cell migration

TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4, a protein found in most human cells. The fragment retains the actin-binding region of the parent protein, which is the basis for most of its research interest.

It is frequently discussed alongside BPC-157 - the two are combined in the 'Wolverine' stacks - but they work through different proposed mechanisms, which is why blends pair them rather than treating them as substitutes.

Mechanism

Actin sequestration

Thymosin beta-4 binds G-actin. By regulating the available actin pool, it is proposed to influence cell motility and structural reorganisation.

Cell migration

Animal wound models report increased migration of repair cells to injury sites, consistent with the actin-binding mechanism.

Wound closure

The strongest translational signal for the parent protein is in dermal wound healing, which is where human trial data exists.

Research status

The parent protein, thymosin beta-4, has been tested in human Phase 2 dermal wound-healing trials - a stronger translational position than most research peptides. The specific fragment sold as TB-500 has far less direct human data, and much of what is cited comes from rodent studies. It is on the WADA prohibited list.

Verifying a batch

  • 01Confirm whether the vial contains the full-length fragment or a shorter sequence - suppliers use the TB-500 name loosely.
  • 02Identity should be confirmed by mass spectrometry; purity alone does not tell you what the peptide is.
  • 03Cold, dry, dark storage before reconstitution.

Questions

Is TB-500 the same as thymosin beta-4?+

No. TB-500 is a fragment of the full protein. Suppliers use the name for more than one sequence, so the certificate of analysis matters more than the label.

Why is TB-500 paired with BPC-157?+

The proposed mechanisms are complementary - actin-driven cell migration alongside angiogenic and repair signalling - rather than redundant. The combination itself has not been tested in human trials.
