Repair peptide - gastric-protein derived
BPC 157
Synthetic pentadecapeptide studied in tissue-repair models
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide whose sequence derives from a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It is one of the most widely studied repair peptides in preclinical research, largely because the same molecule has been examined across a unusually broad range of tissue types.
It is not an approved medicine anywhere. The published literature is overwhelmingly animal and in-vitro work, and the few human studies that exist are small and have not been replicated at scale.
Mechanism
Angiogenic signalling
Rodent studies report upregulation of VEGFA and eNOS, which is the proposed explanation for accelerated vascularisation at injury sites.
Nitric oxide system
Several papers describe interactions with the NO pathway, and note that some observed effects are attenuated by NOS inhibition.
Gut-lining protection
The most consistent body of work concerns gastrointestinal models, where the peptide is reported to protect and repair mucosal lesions.
Research status
Preclinical work is extensive and frequently cited, but it is dominated by rodent models with small sample sizes. Human data is limited to a handful of small pilot studies. No large randomised trial has established efficacy or long-term safety in humans, and BPC-157 is on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list.
Verifying a batch
- 01Purity is usually reported by HPLC, with mass confirmed by mass spectrometry. Ask for the actual chromatogram, not just a percentage.
- 02Batch-to-batch consistency matters more for a peptide this widely studied - a certificate that names the batch code is worth more than a generic one.
- 03Lyophilised powder should be stored cold, dry, and dark; purity degrades faster once reconstituted.

Questions
Is BPC-157 approved for human use?+
No. It is not an approved medicine in the US or EU. It is sold for laboratory research use, and published human evidence is limited to small pilot studies.
Why is BPC-157 so popular in research?+
Breadth rather than depth - the same peptide has been tested across tendon, muscle, gut, and vascular models, which makes it a common reference compound even though no single result is definitive.
How do I check a batch is genuine?+
Match the batch code on the vial to a third-party certificate of analysis showing both purity and identity, and confirm the lab that issued it actually exists.
